Intermediate Unix Technical Analyst: Full-Time - Victoria

For 25 years, MYRA Systems has provided information technology (IT) solutions and technology infrastructure services focused on support, design, planning and implementation to our customers. We specialize in supporting businesses that use UNIX, Windows, networks and related technologies.

We are currently seeking an Intermediate UNIX Technical Analyst in our Victoria office. MYRA is interested in qualified candidates who welcome technical challenges in a professional and confident manner and enjoy working in a fast paced team environment.

Core responsibilities for Intermediate UNIX Technical Analysts include:

  • Supporting, migrating, upgrading and implementing UNIX server environments that will support mission critical business applications
  • Providing consulting, design, and/or implementation and support for data storage solutions
  • Writing and maintaining scripts in languages such as Perl, Shell scripts, CGI and Java
  • Supporting associated hardware and software, such as SAN and network components including firewalls
  • Providing sales support for products and services such as product demonstrations
  • Working closely with technical teams and project managers, external vendor partners and customers

Mandatory requirements for this position are:

  • 3+ years of experience supporting and administering production UNIX based operating environments for large, enterprise server and storage environments
  • A University degree in computer science or equivalent education and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, English verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with project managers and technicians, as well as be self-directed as required and handle independently a wide variety of assignments
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools
  • Available for occasional evening and weekend work and/or carrying a 24/7 pager on a rotating schedule, as required to support the client environments
  • Ability to travel within BC for some assignments as required
  • Valid BC driver's license

Desirable requirements for this position are:

  • Demonstrated experience with Sun Microsystems midrange and/or enterprise server hardware and disk arrays
  • Demonstrated experience with Solaris10 Operating system and scripting using tools such as Perl
  • Expertise and certification in technology domains such as network security (firewalls, encryption and authentication), network architecture, Sun, Cisco and Oracle product lines
  • Experience in designing, implementing, integrating and virtual UNIX server environments (LDOMs, Containers/Zones etc) and management of data centre technologies including clustering, backup and storage virtualization
  • Experience in implementing and supporting Web environments
  • ITIL Foundation Certification
  • Excellent analytical abilities, resulting in problem resolution
  • Technical pre-sales skills, including formal presentations
  • Strong MS Visio solution design skills
  • Experience with high performance storage subsystems and SAN technologies; IP SAN; iSCSI/Fibre Channel, NAS, NetApps
  • Experience with Database backup and restore, such as Oracle, SQL, Exchange, Veritas NetBackup, SAP
  • Experience with Clustered systems and high availability solutions
  • Working knowledge of Linux and Windows Operating Systems
  • Experience with VMware implementations
  • Experience supporting Microsoft servers
