What is it?

Server virtualization partitions a large capacity server platform resource by running a software layer between the operating system and the underlying server hardware. This layer is responsible for allowing multiple operating system images (and their running applications) to act as a separate server but share the resources of a single physical server. You can then run different applications on different operating systems on the same server, or copy and move instances from one server to another seamlessly.
