Intermediate UNIX and Network Technical Analyst (Full Time)

For 33 years, MYRA Systems has provided information technology (IT) solutions and technology infrastructure services focused on support, design, planning and implementation to our customers. We specialize in supporting businesses that use UNIX, Windows, networks and related technologies.
We are currently seeking an Intermediate or Senior UNIX and Network Technical Analyst in our Victoria office. MYRA is interested in qualified candidates who welcome technical challenges in a professional and confident manner and enjoy working in a fast paced team environment.
Core responsibilities for Intermediate and Senior UNIX Technical Analysts include:

Supporting, migrating, upgrading and implementing UNIX server environments that will support mission critical business applications - typically Red Hat Linux
-
Supporting, upgrading, and maintaining network equipment such as switches, routers, and firewalls
-
Writing and maintaining scripts in languages such as Perl, Python, BASH, or other Shell scripts
-
Working with other technical specialists to integrate UNIX hardware and software with the environment, e.g. SAN and network components including firewalls
-
Supporting Oracle DBAs, and middle-tier application specialists in operating their applications on a UNIX/Linux environment
-
Working with web developers, for installing, maintaining, and upgrading Apache, Drupal, WordPress, or other web server environments
Mandatory requirements for this position are:
-
Excellent written and spoken English language communication skills
-
Excellent interpersonal skills
-
3+ years of experience supporting and administering production UNIX based operating environments for large, enterprise server and storage environments
-
A University degree in computer science or equivalent education and experience
-
Ability to work effectively as a team member with project managers and technicians, as well as be self-directed as required and handle independently a wide variety of assignments
-
Experience with Office tools (Microsoft, Libreoffice, etc.)
-
Available for occasional evening and weekend work and/or carrying a 24/7 pager on a rotating schedule, as required to support the client environments

Valid BC driver’s license
Desirable skills, abilities, and experiences for this position are:
-
Ability to travel within BC for some assignments as required
-
Experience providing sales support for products and service demos
-
Experience with Sun Microsystems, HP, or Fujitsu midrange and/or enterprise servers
-
Experience with MidTier application support work such as TomCat, WebSphere, Apache, or WebLogic
-
Experience in designing, implementing, integrating and virtual UNIX server environments (LDOMs, Containers/Zones, etc.) and management of data centre technologies including clustering, backup and storage virtualization
-
Experience in implementing and supporting Web environments such as Apache, Drupal, or other LAMP stacks
-
ITIL Foundation Certification
-
MS Visio solution design skills (or equivalent)

Experience with high performance storage subsystems and SAN technologies: EMC, NetApp, Oracle Storage, or Nimble Storage, IP SAN; iSCSI/Fibre Channel, NAS

Experience with Database backup and restore, such as Oracle and MySQL
-
Expertise with Veritas NetBackup, VEEAM, or other enterprise backup software, and maintaining tape library systems
-
Experience with Clustered systems and high availability solutions
-
Experience with VMware or other hypervisors
